To abandon the daily routine and exchange everyday life for solitude away from the hustle and bustle of the city rhythm - many, from time to time, visit a similar idea. We have collected some of the most extremely isolated houses in the world, whose residents are not disturbed by the city noise or neighbors. When making a choice in favor of such a lifestyle, it is worth remembering that you will not be able to quickly go to the store for groceries.

1. Crystal Mill (Crystal Mill) / Colorado, USA

A structure located above the Crystal River between Glenwood Springs and Aspen, off Highway 82 in Colorado, USA. In the past, the mill, built in 1892 for the needs of miners, served as a hydroelectric power station. When the mine closed, the hydroelectric power station was abandoned. You can get to the Crystal Mill only in summer and autumn.

2. House on the island of Ellida / Iceland

Ellida is part of a small archipelago on the south coast of Iceland. Originally built by a group of hunters, this lodge sits on the palm of a sharply defined island that is constantly bombarded by unforgiving winds.

3. Wordie House/Winter Island, Antarctica

A former British scientific base built to house 4-5 researchers, materials from a whaling station abandoned in the late 1940s were used in the construction. Inside there is a separate kitchen-living room, office, dog room, generator room and toilet.

4. Eremo di San Colombano/Trentino Alto Adige, Italy

An Italian monastery of the eighth century is not the most difficult to access building, but its location inside the rock, and 102 steps, carved in stone, which must be overcome to get to the entrance, indicate that, whatever one may say, privacy in such a place is guaranteed.

5. Houses in the Faroe Islands / Faroe Islands

Structures covered with moss and grass are located on the autonomous cliffs of the Faroe Islands, located halfway between Norway and Iceland. Local residents live in such houses. They can be considered isolated simply because they are located in the Faroes: the distance to Iceland is 450 km, to Norway - 675 km, to Copenhagen - 1117 km.

6. Long Studio/Fogo Island, Canada

A long, narrow, secluded hideaway perched on stilts above undulating cliffs with unrivaled views of the North Atlantic. At the moment, this is an artist's studio, and, frankly, it is difficult to imagine the most inspiring housing for creativity.

7. Katskhi Pillar (Katskhi Pillar) / Georgia

The now inactive monastery rises into the sky on a monolithic limestone pillar and can only be reached by an iron staircase that stretches from the ground to the top. In addition to evidence of the former church and traces of the life of hermits, the building has a room that served as a wine cellar.

8. Cliff House / Australia

The astonishing home is still in the concept stage, but deserves a place on our list for its audacity. The structure, which hangs from the cliff, on the inside is quite consistent with the notions of traditional housing: with a living room upstairs, bedrooms downstairs, and instead of an open roof terrace, there is a closed glass patio on the lower level with stunning views of the cliff.

9. House of Stone (House of Stone) / Guimarães, Portugal

Built in 1974, high in the Fafe mountains, between four giant boulders, this building is still not connected to electricity, so candles are the only way to illuminate, so nothing distracts from gazing at the starry sky.

10. Rock house / Serbia

Situated on a boulder in the middle of the Drina River, this tiny house was first built back in the late 60s by a group of boys who used it as a summer club. It was destroyed several times by floods, but it was always rebuilt.

11. Solvay Hut / Zermatt, Switzerland

The mountain hut, at over 13,000 feet, is one of the tallest in the region. Built back in 1915, it awaits the most daring travelers who dare to climb the northeastern Matterhorn ridge to its front door.

12. Villa Belza / Biarritz, France

Built by a French businessman knight as a gift to his wife in the 1800s, this castle residence in the rock has lived many lives, from a Russian cabaret to a concert venue in the early 20th century. She has also survived several fires and countless storms.
